This week, MIKE SHELBO! Mike will be here from Wednesday for a whole week! He will be demonstrating and showing us his mad skills
Mike Shelbo is an emerging glass artist who has traveled the world to learn and demonstrate the amazing techniques of glassblowing. Born in Michigan and raised in California, and now currently living in north county of San Diego with his beloved wife and daughter and son. He specializes in jewelry, sculpture and delicate stemware to keep a focus on the beauty and refined detail of glass. Inspiration for his work comes from both the organic qualities of nature and the idea that an underlying world of fantasy binds us to reality. Ten years ago the glass captivated him as a new medium for expression of artistic ideas. Four years ago Shelbo was given the opportunity by the Glass Art Society to demonstrate a unique style of glass sculpting to Adelaide, Australia for their annual conference. Along with this rewarding experience Mike was also able to assist in teaching at the prestigious Penland School of Craft in North Carolina under maestro Bandhu Dunham.

WARNING… KILLER SHEEP. Beware there is recorded evidence of a flock of killer sheep rampaging around the RIT campus. Reports have stated they camoflage themselves by hiding in the snow drifts and jumping out at unsuspecting students. A sniper unit has been deployed but the herd is said to be cunning and sly. No one knows why this particular group of herbivorous mammals has turned to human flesh, some say pollution, some genetic engineering others think they have just had enough of grass.
This week we are very excited to have Anna Boothe as our Visiting Artist. She will be here for three days showing us casting and mold making techniques.
Anna Boothe trained as a sculptor at the Rhode Island School of Design and has worked with glass since 1980. Boothe rec
eived her MFA from the Tyler School of Art in 1988, where she has held a teaching position in the glass program for 12 years. She frequently lectures and teaches workshops throughout the United States and abroad and exhibits her figurative kiln-cast work regularly. In 1997 she established Fritworks, a business dedicated to providing supplies and technical support to kiln-workers.
An exciting opportunity for RIT students for a residency at the Bullseye factory in Portland is taking place as we speak!!! As you probably all know Drew, Shane, Becca and Cassandra are all having a fabulous time. Drew says.. “Things are very interesting here to say the least, we live right across from the factory so all we do is walk across the street. We work our of the Research and Education Center and it is sweet! It is certainly a tightly run ship around here”.
